Interview with eminence32
Incumbent Member of Parliament
Background
How did you learn about PrUn? What made you keep playing?
I think I first learned of PrUn from a comment on Hacker News. This was about 1000 days ago, so I don't really remember the context in which it was linked. But back then I thought PrUn was some type of EVE-style idle game. I probably took a few days to realize that's not at all was this game is about, but rather it was something much more interesting.
I'm not exactly sure why I kept playing originally, but these days the social aspects are my favorite: being able to hang out and chat with friendly people from all over the world while we wait for ships to arrive, production lines to finish, and market orders to fulfill.
What are your long-term goals? Would you care to share anything about your real-life background/profession?
Somewhat surprisingly, I don't have any specific long-term goals at the moment. My most recent goal was to become the number one hydrogen producer and that happened many months ago. Real life had been quite busy recently, so it's increasingly hard to find the time to spend hours planning out new bases and production lines.
In real life, I'm a professional software developer, so sometimes my free time goes into writing PrUn-related tools.
What does your nickname and company name mean?
The name "Eminence" comes from the song Eminence Front. The company name "Eminence Heavy Industries" is styled after "Mitsubishi Heavy Industries" just because I thought it sounded cool 🙂.
Polity
In your opinion, is Benten a leading region or a lagging one?
Hard to say, exactly. My company is so heavily Benten-focused, I don't pay all that much attention to the other 3 regions. I think Benten has the potential to be as big or important as any of the other regions, but sometimes maybe we enjoy our position of being a little understated compared to the other regions.
Policy
Why did you decide to run?
I'm running to help support MartianEngineer (who also helps govern Katoa with me and several others).
Why is your program better than the program of the other party?
To be perfectly honest, I'm not all that invested in the various platforms, and I don't think any one is all that much better than another.
But I do support the general idea of having our Benten planets work together. After all, constructors on Gibon benefit from having a strong Giedi Prime. Both planets need thermofluid and flux from Umbra. And polymer granulate flows into Katoa to make all the overalls and office supplies that everyone relies on. So we're all connected and it makes sense to me that we would all try to support each other.
Polling
Is there anything Benten should do differently for future elections?
There's several things that I think the game should do differently (for example, let multiple run together as a single ticket).
It would be nice if the people running for government could find a way to more clearly predict and communicate revenue and expenses. Population modeling in this game is very hard, though. Without this, it's hard for candidates to give specifics about the decisions they'll made as governors/parliament, which means that everyone just has to discuss general principles and approaches.
Anything else readers should know?
Remember to have fun! Don't get too stressed out about in-game politics and do the thing that is the most fun for you!
